January Update

A PS from Bee: I may have nuked the server, but I will continue my commitments. If you want updates, be sure to check the website!

Hello all, it is I, Kobra2112, hacking the Daybreak site account to post you this update because I wanted to play a prank on Bee and get the drop on him for once.

Anyway, I’ll get the bad news out of the way first and foremost:
I have a job

Tragic, I know, I’m no longer one of the unemployed American masses, but unfortunately editing visual novels ain’t exactly a high-paying job, so I kinda can’t use the good will/hatred of angry redditors to feed myself.

Luckily, my primary energy source is spite, so no problems there.

As for projects, here’s how things are going on that front:

Akatsuki no Goei: A Day in the Life of the Ladies

S U F F E R

Just to preface, we haven’t stopped working on this title but it’s on hold for reasons I’m not allowed to discuss at the moment.

Akatsuki no Goei: Tsumibukaki Shuumatsuron

Yay, something I can talk about, finally. Editing on this should have started by the time you see this post. My personal goal is to be done with this in six months but now that I have a job, it’s not like I can edit 15k lines a month unlike when I was unemployed. My work on Kusarihime was facilitated by a unique set of circumstances that allowed me to go through it that fast. Such is life.

Gin’iro, Haruka

The team is currently working on Yuzuki’s route in QA and we’re also trying to get subbed EDs and images translated. Cornrope has also been hard at work ironing out any kinks in both routes, so this should be a much smoother (and hopefully final) release.

Majikoi A+ and Ryouken After

Research is ongoing for these titles. As you will see by the upcoming Majikoi tier list podcast, we are heavily invested in this franchise and are looking forward to working on the last two games of the series. A+ is actually the length of a proper fandisk (12k lines), while Ryouken is much shorter (around 4,000 lines) so we should be able to get both games out some time next year. We will announce more about these titles once Bee finishes working on Akatsuki 3.

Tsujidou-san no Virgin Road

Research is ongoing for this title. We will likely not start work on this at least until Majikoi is finished, but it is definitely still in planning and we are currently working out researching things like references and trying to keep it as consistent as reasonably possible with Tsujidou-san no Jun’ai Road.

Future Projects
Who fucking knows lol

And yeah, that’s pretty much the low-down on what’s going on at Daybreak Translations.

Hope you had a happy holiday season, and fuck you reddit.

Regards,
Kobra2112

  2. Usagi says:

Why Kusarihime is not releasing if editing was finished?

  3. BigBigDog says:

Let me back in, let me back in! I’m going to freeze to death out here! Anyways, happy new year.

    Why was the discord nuked?

  5. Thanks for all the hard work, please know that some people really do appreciate everything you do. P.S. I was really freaking out when I woke up and couldn’t find your discord server, really hope you resurrect it soon.

      What happened

    • Bee says:

Hey there Magus, thanks for the comment. We don’t know if it’ll ever come back, but we’ll be sure to continue work as usual!

      • Antichrist Detester says:

Blessing in disguise, Discord is evil (owned by Tencent) (Your furry rp WILL be reviewed by the Chinese censors). Jokes (not really) aside, you could make a matrix/element server. It’s probably the closest thing to discord layout wise while also offering encryption and privacy options so you don’t get yeeted.

        • Bee says:

Hey there, Detester. The main issue we decided to just be rid of the server was mainly because in the current cancel culture, we’ve already faced “petty” drama due to people taking screenshots of what some of us say in it out of context. Some could take comments of mine as offensive or worse, so to avoid people intentionally archiving our server’s conversations for evil purposes I decided to cut the problem from the root.

Will I open another server eventually in discord or elsewhere? The answer is “maybe.” I thought opening ourselves up like that would be a net positive for the team, but ultimately what matters is our releases, and not how open we are or not towards the public about them.

Thanks for your continued hard work Bee, Kobra, and the rest of the Daybreak team. I really enjoyed the AkaGoei translation and I’m looking forward to the rest of the trilogy and Tsujidou-san no Virgin Road in the future! I’m sad the discord is gone but if its causing problems for the team then I can live without it!

    • Bee says:

Hey there, Sauce. Thank you for the understanding. Even if there’s no discord, we’re still hard at work over here.

      Have a good one!

  7. CgSquall says:

Thanks for your work. I really appreciate it. – I swear I manually type this out every time.

Sorry that people in general suck, especially when you’re giving them something awesome for free (and they likely aren’t buying the VN’s either…)

    • Bee says:

Hey there, Squall. It is what it is, but that doesn’t mean we’ll stop working. We’ll simply take a more conservative approach and keep our distance from fans in general so as to not get into too many issues with social media and the like!

  8. Jabs says:

Thx for all your hard work. You guys are the best and very excited for the last two Majikoi games. Wish you and the team the best.

  9. jorgosbalashi says:

Hello, did something happen to the discord server? I don’t see it on the servers anymoreany chance you can send me an invite? My name is corpsexjoker

  10. Koalks says:

Really love your work, i freak out when the discord disappear, love your work folks!

    Majikoi A+ and Ryouken After

“…so we should be able to get both games out some time next year”

By next year do you mean 2024 or 2025? Post being made at Janurary 1 is makes it a bit confusing.

    • Bee says:

      Hello, You,

My current plan is to start Majikoi around April this year. Assuming my speed isn’t thwarted by work, I should be finished this year around August or September. Editing should take considerably less, so with some luck you’ll be able to read the new titles in 2024.

  12. Hello! I only learned about you taking on the last 2 Majikoi fandiscs recently, thank you very much! I wanted to ask if you can consider the short VNs that came with the Drama CDs and SPARK, since I’m not sure if there are any more chances for their TLs:
    https://vndb.org/v16539
There’s 5 short slice-of-life stories for the 5 OG heroines. The first one had a chunk of the common route from the original as a demo of sorts while others had different stuff from what I remember.
    https://vndb.org/v20012
Another very short story with Jun as protagonist, with some Ads promoted by KimiAru characters.

Oh, both of the above have Yamato voiced.

Another optional thing I wanted to mention for you to consider, but you can completely ignore this one as it’s more like a selfish request from me. I’m not sure if it’s even doable. As you know, Ryouken After had a different artist, I remember not minding the CGs much, but character sprites were off and distracting when I read it. Quality aside, but it’s also due to having been drawn with similar poses that I couldn’t NOT compare them. Is it possible to mod the original sprites in their place? As an option to use either art.

Even if you don’t do any of this, still, thank you for picking up those two! Good luck.

    • Bee says:

      Hello there, Raccoon,

To answer your comment, I’ll go part by part.

      1. While I have indeed taken 2 of the last Majikoi fandisks, I do have a game queued after those two, which happens to be Tsujidou-san no Virgin Road. I believe adding more commitments to the pile would be a little too much for me to take. Just to be completely honest, I do not believe they’ll be doable. Or at the very least in the coming year or two.

      2. As for the sprites business with the Ryouken after, I think it could theoretically be doable, but the issue is that it’d involve recoding the entire game in certain parts, and I’m not sure if the man handling engine stuff for me would be open to the idea (I’ll go ahead and assume with a 99% certainty that it’ll be a no). However, I can make a request to other people who in their free time could be open to do this separately from us later down the line. The tldr on this one is that what you ask is more of a thing an official publisher would do, not us. We’re far from one, and our capabilities are pretty limited.

Thanks for the comment either way, and for the support shown towards us and our commitments!

  13. Sherlock says:

Hello, I want to ask about Mizuha patch. Does the patch blocked off Yuzuki’s route progression because it’s still not translated yet? TIA

Also thank you for the hard work translating Gin’iro Haruka.

    • Bee says:

      Hey there, Sherlock,

The patch does not include Yuzuki’s translation yet, no. We plan to release a full one soon, however. You’ll see the text in Japanese on her route for the time being with the current patch.

Have a good one and thanks for the support!
